Logmein No Longer Free
Posted by James Tintinger on 28 January 2014 12:34 PM

It has come to our attention that from 28 January 2014 Logmein will no longer be offering a free service. Logmein made this announcement towards the end of last week and have very kindly given a grace period of 7 days which begin the next time the account is logged in.

New LogMeIn accounts cost $99 a year, but if you have an existing account, you can sign up for premium for $49 for 2 computers.

Whilst Microsoft Remote Desktop has always been CMS Hospitality’s preferred method of remote connection, many of our customers have used LogMeIn (and in many cases the free version) so we encourage you to please check with your IT support provider if they are aware of this and if they have any alternative.

There are alternatives to paying for the premium subscription. TeamViewer, for example, is a great remote desktop and online collaboration tool that remains free for private users – though there are subscription fees for business users starting at $750 for 15 seats.

Other options include Microsoft Remote Desktop or 2X and there are also many Web based systems available. As an interim measure we have the facility of taking over any of your systems using our HelpDesk system which has a built in application to do so.

Please feel free to contact our Operations Manager James Tintinger should you have any queries regarding this.

Windows XP Support
Posted by James Tintinger on 19 November 2013 01:11 PM
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows XP

CMS Hospitality would like to announce the end of support for GuestCentrix Software Solutions running on Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Office 2003.

For any new upgrades to GuestCentrix, and new installations of GuestCentrix from 1st November, Windows XP will no longer be guaranteed to offer system compatibility.

Microsoft have officially announced that from April 08, 2014 Windows XP (and Office 2003) will no longer have security updates or patches released, which may expose users to potential security risks.

Microsoft have published the following information on their website:

Support for Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003 ends on April 8th, 2014. After support ends, there will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates. Continuing to run Windows XP SP3 in your environment after April 8, 2014 exposes your company to potential security risks, as unsupported and unpatched environments are vulnerable to security threats.

Migration efforts are well underway to get current for many companies. For those who have not started, now is the time to upgrade to a more modern operating system. Erwin Visser, on the Windows for Your Business Blog, addresses the importance of starting to plan and begin migrations now to ensure businesses are not running unsupported operating system once we pass the support deadline.

For those who need more assistance, Microsoft offers in-depth technical resources, tools and expert guidance to ease the deployment process. Online information and resources are available by visiting the Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003 end of support site. To learn more about migration and deployment programs, please contact your Microsoft Support Professional. We are dedicated to helping you remain secure and are here to assist you every step of the way.

GuestCentrix applications are no longer tested on Windows XP or Office 2003 and we can longer confirm usability.

Existing Windows XP users are recommended to contact their IT support for further advice on upgrading their workstations.

CMS Hospitality would like to farewell their old friend in XP, which has proved to be one of the most stable platforms that our applications have been used on!
